GDM 3: Never have characters interrupt each other, unless the audio can be timed convincingly.

Nothing murders immersion like hearing a character start some dialog, then suddenly stop and wait politely for another character to interrupt them. Virtually every game with voiced dialog does this, and it sounds terrible every time.

Of course, the reason this is so common is that there are real technical difficulties to getting it right - especially if the game is localized. But if those difficulties apply to your game, the only good option is to avoid having characters interrupt one another.
