GDM 2: Never tutorial a button you're about to disable.

It’s bizarre how common this is:

You start a game, and it kicks off with an exciting combat tutorial - here’s how you attack, here’s how to dodge, here’s how to target an enemy. Then the tutorial ends, and the game puts you in a town full of friendly NPCs - there are no enemies to target, and the attack and dodge buttons are disabled. An hour later when you enter your first dungeon, the combat tutorial is long-forgotten - and all the developer hours spent on it were utterly wasted.

Don’t make this mistake. If the player will start in an area where certain controls are disabled, tutorial those controls after the player leaves that area. If that means you need multiple tutorials, then guess what? You need multiple tutorials.
